You may be familiar or may have heard about Systemic Lupus Erythematous (lupus). It happens when the body’s defence system attacks healthy cells and tissues, instead of viruses and bacteria. This can damage many parts of the body such as the kidneys, joints, skin heart, brain and lungs. Little is known about this disease in Nigeria and many parts of the developing world and as such sufferers are often misdiagnosed, stigmatized by society and often die without help. The Mnena Lupus Foundation is a Charity established to offer free practical, emotional, social as well as financial support to people with lupus and their families and friends.
